2020.09.18 15:55 futureIsYes AAPL: reasons to buy or not

to buy:
20% lower than the highs (it was 135), even though it has grown a lot lately, it is "only" 50% up year to date (e.g. compared to 400% tsla), they are going out with a 5g phone next month, started online shops in India, PE of 33 (compared to 115 for amzn, 1097 for TSLA), lots of analysts/brokers still bullish about them, cult level followers
not to buy:
Sales have been lower, the china situation is not clear (e.g. if wechat gets banned from the App store, I know that in the US trump is pushing for banning download of tiktok or wechat, but I don't know if they will be forced to remove it from china market as well, also if trade wars escalate and china bans/limits apple products, Huawei and other companies like Oppo/Vivo are also making decent high quality phones as well, etc)

any comments? I don't have any position and was thinking of getting some. But not that much. something between 25 to 50 stocks. I have amzn, google and msft at the moment.

2020.09.17 16:59 koine_lingua Response to "If you are a smug Democrat or leftist coming here to see how 'stupid' we are..." on /r/Republican

So I'm actually kind of uncertain about the rules for posting here. I know the actual rule section states that "unless you identify as Republican that you refrain from commenting "; though I feel like from the time I've spent here, I haven't seen this upheld very often.
Maybe my post will be removed, as I'm unambiguously not a Republican, and am pretty clearly left-leaning in most of my views. I figure, though, that since your post is explicitly directed at left-leaning individuals, and since a number of commenters here are inviting them to respond, that it might be considered a bit of a one-off exception.
Just to be clear on a few things: I wouldn't consider myself smug, nor do I come here with any notions about how "stupid" the posters here are — though (like other subreddits representing other political perspectives) I do recognize this as a partisan subreddit, where I think views are often expressed far too carelessly and hostilely.
I'm not a centrist, even if I don't consider my political beliefs to be the most important type of beliefs that I hold as a person, and even though I put great emphasis on finding common ground when it comes to dialogue.
On one last note, I don't think much productive discussion is usually had around these kinds of "gotcha" posts. The main type of argument that this post seems to be centered around is tu quoque, or whataboutism; and I think that this style usually just drags both sides down, and comes dangerously close to the view that two wrongs make a right.
So the style of this post presents hyphenated claims that have presumably been expressed by some Democrats/leftists, followed by a critical response in bold. I'll quote that format as is, and then comment on each item.
  • Trump is trying to encourage peace in the world. He's making moves to end the wars we are in.
Democrats have brought the violence here to our streets. They are failing to condemn it and normalizing the idea that even more will happen if they don't get what they want.
Ideologically/philosophically, I'm a bit more of a rigid pacifist than most; so you won't see me condoning violence. You'll see how a number of my responses here are influenced by this.
In terms of foreign policy and militarism: Trump's stated views, and a number of his actions, indeed tend toward the non-interventionist direction, which is commendable. One question here, though, is whether there's a sort of inevitability to the "war machine," as it relates to the assertion of American power and in the administration's actions in relation to inherited conflicts; and I think this is part of what leads some commentators to speak in terms of some contradictions here. For example, this short piece in Foreign Policy begins by stating
On matters of war and peace, U.S. President Donald Trump says what he means but rarely does what he says; the result has been his administration’s contradictory combination of hawkish militarism and strategic retrenchment. Alongside Trump’s overt militarism—demonstrated in practice by the expansion of troop deployments and airstrikes in the wars he inherited—he has, paradoxically, repeated a rhetorical preference for reducing certain overseas military commitments, both deployments and wars.
(I'll leave to others to determine whether all the assessments in the full article that's quoted here are fair or not. I quote it more so just to showcase more complex views of this than out of blanket agreement. Also, it was written in 2019, and as such obviously doesn't take into account recent peace deals.)
Turning to the domestic situation: I still think that the overwhelming trend is for people on all sides to make a substantive distinction between committed political protesters and opportunistic rioters — certainly including Joe Biden. That being said, the symbiotic (or maybe parasitic?) relationship between political protest and rioting and destruction has always been a super thorny issue — prominent during the civil rights protests, for example, and something that those like Martin Luther King, Jr. famously struggled with.
But yes, again, as someone who leans pretty firmly in a pacifist direction, I'm uncomfortable with normalizing violence, even if some might characterize it as an "inevitable" byproduct of profound political and social change.
  • You tell us Black Lives Matter is just about better police treatment of black people.
Trump doesn't control the police, so why were people trying to storm the White House?
Along with some of what I said in my previous comments, storming the White House is silly and won't accomplish anything, but isn't necessarily contradictory to the larger aims of Black Lives Matter in terms of reducing racial discrimination. (Nor do I think that those more misplaced actions should be taken to be representative of Black Lives Matter supporters as a whole.)
And not by way of justification, but by way of explanation, the President — any President — will always be a figurehead, real and symbolic, for larger political and social views. (And on another note, while the Trump administration indeed doesn't control police, the issue of law enforcement funding is indeed a federal issue, over which Trump and Biden obviously have some differing views.)
  • It's just about "unfair treatment".
Why do you all ignore the ACTUAL justice reform that Trump signed?
First and foremost, justice reform isn't just about one thing. Also, for what it's worth, the First Step Act is almost certainly the measure supported by the Trump administration that has the greatest amount of bipartisan support, and passed 87-12 in the Senate.
We should probably be careful about overstating the amount of reforms initiated by the Trump administration, though. In the section on justice reform on the official site for Trump accomplishments, for example, this seems to center almost exclusively on the First Step Act. (Also, just on a more historical note, the First Step Act has its roots in the 2015 Sentencing Reform and Corrections Act. That's not to downplay its significance, but to give a bit more context about its origins.)
  • You think we care nothing about people's lives.
But you don't say anything about states that passed bills making it legal to abort a child literally as it's being born.
I think it'd be silly to think that Republicans and others don't care about people's lives. More generally speaking, I think that both strongly-held pro-choice beliefs and pro-life beliefs both come from concern for people's lives; and/or what might best be described as moral intuitions — sometimes at the expense of rational justification and argument.
That being said, I actually don't know anything about (what I assume) is the debate over "partial-birth abortion," so I won't say anything else about this item.
  • You think we are selfish for wanting to go to church.
How many crowded funerals did George Floyd get, again?
I'd honestly think that the vast majority of criticism here is aimed specifically at church-going that pretty flagrantly refuses to practice social distancing. But yes, I think improper social distancing should be condemned no matter where it takes place. It really, really sucks to be where we are, especially when it comes to our inability to grieve and be with people.
  • You chose Biden and try to sell him as a reasonable centrist.
We know that he may have been that 20 years ago, but he's changed his agenda to be far more "progressive."
I'm not someone who's necessarily inclined to apologize for a more substantive shift to the left. That being said, it remains to be seen how much of Biden's rhetoric here is simply more... opportunistic, in terms of appealing to a wider, younger base that leans far more progressive, whereas he'd be aware that there's little he could really do in terms of more progressive measures actually passing in the Senate.
  • You tell us we're "selfish, greedy bastards."
Republicans give more than Democrats do to charity, and do so at all levels of income.
Some may say that, but I’d never make such a statement.
That Republicans are more charitable than Democrats is a well established fact; and there's no excuse for that — we have to do better. Maybe taking a closer look to try to found out exactly why this is the case can yield some interesting insights, though. (As it stands, I know virtually nothing about that.)
  • You say that Trump is going to have roaming bands of Nazi brownshirts on the streets terrorizing people.
You are now gathering to harass diners trying to eat meals outside...demanding they raise their fists, political figures trying to have dinner are being accosted, conservative journalists have had to move from their homes, you are shouting death threats outside the Senate Majority leader's house and now BLM apparently has a group targeting racist "citizens" to show up at their homes...
Again, as someone fairly committed to non-violence, you won't see me defend these more extreme actions. I do think, though, that at the same time that there are those who opportunistically hijack this movement for more anarchistic or radical purposes, there are a number of people on the other side who also over-eager to use moments like these to make radical political and social statements of their own. (I'll pick this back up in the section about armed protestors.)
Hit the character limit; continued below.
Part 2
  • You say that WE are "in a cult".
You have most major media giving you talking points that you agree with and you discuss how you've had to cut actual family and friends out of your life because they like "Mango Mussolini".
If my takeaway from the point about charity is that we Democrats/etc. have to do better, the takeaway from this one is is that we all have to do better. We especially need to work on not allowing ourselves to by riled up by media commentators — along with being more critical when some of their same sensationalism can spill over into the non-commentary section, too.
As for relationships with friends and family: I struggle with this in my personal life, too. Specifically, while I have an iron-clad policy to never initiate a political conversation or anything with my father, he sends me very sensationalist media and videos unsolicited all the time; and when I try to engage in some of the most respectful conversation about some of these things, he has a tendency to lose his temper very quickly. I know some struggle with the opposite problem.
  • You say that you are the ones who love minorities.
The vitriol that you express towards any member of a minority group that champions conservative beliefs is testimony that you do not.
I think this is one of the weaker responses in your post. It's easy to distinguish larger concern for a populace's well-being from political differences with individual minorities, without thinking the latter entails the former. But yes, occasionally, the idea that minorities can "vote against their own interests" (etc.) can be expressed silly and insensitive ways that have racist connotations — see Biden's "you ain’t black" comment.
  • You say that taking our kids to church is child abuse because they are impressionable.
But when kids are taken to riots by antifa parents and tear gas is deployed, it's the cops' fault for endangering the kids.
I'd imagine the view that taking kids to church s child abuse is fairly radical and uncommon. I'd imagine taking your kids to an Antifa rally is similarly radical and uncommon. I think focusing on these rare events creates more heat than light.
  • You say that you love America.
You voted for a dude that wanted it fundamentally say that "it was never great" and some of you are openly wanting a socialist state and you are burning American flags in the streets now.
I think that "fundamentally transformed" can easily be taken more charitably. The Constitution and other legal fundamentals represent a certain set of principles that can't be abandoned; but it also allows for a wide range of views and policies re: how America should function politically and socially.
I’m aware that many have strongly held views about our "national" moral failures. And related to ths, one time, my dad expressed some very strong and disturbing views about Colin Kaepernick and his original protest. I tried to explain that I don't think his was a statement of anti-Americanism, but a provocative challenge to perceptions of the "America" of unbridled optimism, instead calling attention to those who have continually experienced America in a different, painful way (and who obviously looked forward to a day where they didn't have this experience).
  • Teachers are concerned that "conservative parents" might overhear the lessons they are teaching our kids.
You think they have a right to be scared of the parents who are paying their salaries.
I honestly have very little idea of what this is in reference to, so I'll skip this one. (Though I think it also risks conflating "some teachers" with "all teachers.")
  • You snidely said, "All buildings matter" on 9/11.
BLM Riots Are Officially the Most Costly Man made Damage to American Property in History
“All buildings matter” is silly statement basically expressing whataboutism — trying to critique a perceived disproportionate focus on 9/11 by comparing it to anti-BLM sentiment, which presumably is premising on pushing back on (what's perceived to be) a disproportionate focus on a relatively small number of lives.
  • You think you are the ones who understand civics.
You still insist that Hillary really won the 2016 election.
Maybe there's a (small) movement of people who think Clinton really won the electoral vote; but so far as it goes for most people, this obviously comes down to different philosophical views about the role of the electoral college vs. popular vote in determining the President.
  • You used to deny being socialists.
Now you often try to make self-posts here asking us, "What's wrong with having socialism?"
I won't say too much about this one. Somehow, though, I imagine that most of these aren't calls for "full-blown" socialism, but attempts to establish some common ground re: the necessity of a number of programs and initiatives of social welfare.
  • You think that kids making MAGA videos is wrong and exploitative.
But at the same age it's okay for other kids to do dancing in drag at strip clubs.
This is definitely one of the most bizarre and seemingly absurd items here. I can't imagine how small the number of people is that thinks it's okay for kids to be dancing in drag at strop club. But yes, I think that almost no one under the age of 14 or so is capable of grasping the nuance of most political debates (though I suppose that applies far beyond age 14), and that any media paying attention to this is sensationalism by very definition.
  • You demand that subreddits that seem to encourage violence and are conservative be "shut down".
You defend subreddits that advocate violence from the side that is currently PERPETRATING violence in the streets.
I've honestly never followed a lot of the controversy here, so I don't have anything to say on this. Again, though, as someone bit more inclined toward pacifism than most, I'd imagine this is an area that we have to do better on.
  • You complained when re open protests had armed people at them.
A member of a black militia actually opened fire accidentally at a BLM protest and shot three comrades in Louisville. We never hear about it.
In tandem with what I said in my previous comment, I have more blanket opposition toward weapons altogether. At the same time, I still support concealed carry, and would prefer to see much less open carry here — and I think we'd see much less violence here.
  • You think we're poorly informed due to the terrible media we consume.
You still don't know the true story of what happened to the Covington kids in DC and you still want Nick Sandmann to suffer for that hate-smirk.
I do think that our choice of media — particularly its emphasis on opinion/commentary — has a profound and negative effect on political thought, and especially dialogue. As for me personally, at the time of the Covington incident, I spent a great deal of time writing an objective account of events.
  • You think that Russia somehow nefariously influenced the last election via social media.
But you never question who might be behind your favorite left-wing social media sites and posts.
With the caveat that I haven't spent a lot of time researching this issue Russian state influence on social media here, my understanding was that this wasn't exactly a conspiracy theory, and more solidly established. Whatever the case, though, I think that something like this should be a concern to both sides of the political aisle, less than an opportunity to engage in whataboutism.
  • Trump has increased troop pay, improved military readiness, invested in support and worked for REAL reform for a VA long beleaguered by problems.
You tried to float the idea that Trump hates the troops.
My understanding (having not spent a ton of time focusing on issues like this in particular) is that the ideas of a reduced military readiness, etc., could be misleading at best.
As for Trump's personal attitude toward those in the military: one major thing I've learned from having spent extensive time critically analyzing the way we form and maintain beliefs is that way some of the ways our different views and opinions relate to each other can be complicated and perplexing. They can even be contradictory. It's certainly possible that Trump can both have respect for the military and service members as a whole, while at same time also harboring more cynical sentiments, too. (The same goes for his purported views about evangelical Christians, etc.)
  • You said it was grossly offensive, horrible, awful and racist to blame the virus on China.
But every day you slog on trying to blame the virus on Trump.
I think "responsibility" for COVID is spread out a lot more diffusely than some think, even domestically. But at the same time I think Trump's is a calculated deflection.
  • You complain at how the virus is decimating the economy.
But you don't care that the House won't get together with the Senate to cooperate on a Covid relief bill.
I wouldn’t have thought of the original claim as an idiosyncratically Democratic view. I also haven’t followed debate/analysis of the congressional talks about the relief bills, so I have nothing of value to add on that. I'll only say that obstructionism is in many ways the MO of the legislative branch as whole, and I think usually both sides end up making each other look bad, even if one could be said to be acting in more “good faith” than the other.
Hit character limit again; a little more below.
Part 3
  • You think it's too dangerous to vote in person.
But you think these protests just have to happen because the cause is too important.
I think this one has some slight nuance that I can't get fully into due to running out of character space. As a whole, though, if people believe this, I can't see it as anything other than hypocrisy. But again, I think it'd be silly to use that as the basis for insisting on one and not the other.
  • You think that white people are clueless and pretty racist and generally kinda bad and responsible for most of the suffering in the world.
But you want us to adopt the Nordic model of healthcare.
I think this is another of the weaker responses. I think very few of those (white persons) emphasizing the role of systemic racism are unaware that most governments officials — even ones they support — are, well, white. And I think it's silly to accuse them of hypocrisy in this. (I guess I just think "[y]ou think white people are clueless and pretty racist" is a pretty ridiculous characterization in the first place.)
  • You are LGBTQ+ - supportive!
... but when 45% of gay men say that they are backing Trump...SUDDENLY they are "immoral."
I feel much the same way about this comment as I do about your previous one about minority Trump supporters. I'd imagine a number of people were surprised at those poll results (on the dating app Hornet); but I don't think their surprise — and/or dismay — would have anything whatsoever to do with thinking that they were now immoral for being gay.
  • You've spent years blaming anti-vaxx on "the right."
But when Biden and Harris suggested that they wouldn't trust a Covid 19 vaccine because Trump is President, you were silent. They lied, people died?
I haven't really formed an opinion about this yet. For context, though, this Axos article quoting Biden's statement in full reads as follows:
“Let me be clear: I trust vaccines, I trust scientists, but I don’t trust Donald Trump,” Biden said. He then called on Trump to answer the following three questions, and said the American people should not have confidence if the president can't answer them:
"What criteria will be used to ensure that a vaccine meets the scientific standard of safety and effectiveness?"
"If the administration greenlights a vaccine, who will validate that the decision was driven by science rather than politics? What group of scientists will that be?"
"How can we be sure that the distribution of the vaccine will take place safely, cost-free and without a hint of favoritism?"
(End Biden quote.)
  • You keep insisting that the USA is the worst nation at dealing with Covid...
Per population, seven other countries have done "worse"...they are Belgium, the UK, Spain, Peru, Italy, Sweden and Chile.
If someone's misrepresented the statistics here, they should correct their view. On the other hand, I don't think the battle for "least worst" is particularly glorious one.
  • You seem to oppose any measure that would make our vote more secure and less prone to fraud. You insist that fraud doesn't happen.
But you are yelling that somehow Republicans are going to steal the election via some nebulous voter fraud.
I think both Democrats and Republicans have an interest in election security, but differing views on how to go about this — some more self-interested than others. I don't think there's a blanket denial that there's actually no election fraud whatsoever; just push-back against sensationalism about its prevalence. (I think anyone who thinks that there are millions of fraudulent votes is clearly engaging in a baseless conspiracy theory. I'd be surprised if there were more than 1,000 instances in any national election.)
But yes, by the same token, Democrats can also engage in this kind of hyperbole/hysteria about massive Russian-influenced voter fraud or whatever.
  • You think that our only objections to Obama were mustard and that tan suit. And only because we are racist.
IRS scandal, unconstitutional DACA, health reform disaster, Fast and Furious, disappearing stimulus money, spying on journalists and persecuting Fox, Iran pallets of cash, incoherent Middle East name a few...
I think we all need to be a lot more critical of the politicians we support, even if it's inconvenient or uncomfortable. I think a number of those are perfectly valid reasons for criticizing things that took place during the Obama administration — of course bearing in mind that it's not always direct Obama appointees, etc., who bear the brunt of responsibility for these scandals. (The same goes for the Trump administration, or any other one.) I think Trump of all people could/should admit that not everything that takes place in the course of an administration is the responsibility/fault of the administration.
  • You suddenly think you need guns because Trump is "worse than Hitler" and you might need to protect yourself from the government.
You are going to vote for a man who just tweeted that he's going to take the guns.
I'm assuming this is the tweet in question:
Weapons of war have no place in our communities.
We need to ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.
This coheres with the stated policy on the official Biden policy site:
Ban the manufacture and sale of assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. Federal law prevents hunters from hunting migratory game birds with more than three shells in their shotgun. That means our federal law does more to protect ducks than children. It’s wrong. Joe Biden will enact legislation to once again ban assault weapons. This time, the bans will be designed based on lessons learned from the 1994 bans. For example, the ban on assault weapons will be designed to prevent manufacturers from circumventing the law by making minor changes that don’t limit the weapon’s lethality. While working to pass this legislation, Biden will also use his executive authority to ban the importation of assault weapons.
I'm sure opinions range on whether this is a good thing or not; but calling this "taking your guns" is doubly inaccurate, in that 1) it doesn't suggest anything about taking these existing weapons from their currents owners, and 2) it seems to suggest a blanket ban on "guns" in general.

The following timeline is (messy and) based on Hololive (including Holostar) Vtubers (along with other characters) debut date (and even retirement date, yes, sadly), instances and marks but if there is no YouTube channel then I can only rely on other media such as Bilibili based on its debut date.
I would like to ask everyone's support to make this post appeal to everyone so that they knew atleast how the Hololive we come to love so much had began. Thank you.
Welcome to...

2020.09.16 18:26 MysticalTh0r charity organizations well known in china

Hi all,
So I met a chinese girl on a dating app and we haven't met in person yet, due to covid, since I'm european and she's in China. Yesterday she told me this friday is her birthday and I'd like to give get a gift. Since I only have known her for a month and obviously, we are not a couple yet, I thought a good gift would be to give money to a charity organization and she could choose the project where to contribute. For example, if I chose "Save the children", she could chose to donate to Beirut, to Africa, etc..
Do you know any charity organization well known in China (it doesn't need to be a chinese one and I don't speak chinese btw) where I could do that? I mean donate and she'd choose the proyect were to donate.
Thanks for the advice!

2020.09.16 09:16 SarahMathews95 On-Demand Construction – One place for Builders, Suppliers, Contractors and Customers

The concept of on-demand involving delivering and receiving products or services in real-time has revolutionized businesses all over the world and the construction industry is not behind. Construction businesses especially need to keep up with these technological on-demand changes as a lot of investment is at stake. The on-demand construction service apps enable contractors, builders and renovators to manage their operations timely and efficiently.

On-demand construction apps – the perfect solution

The reason why on-demand construction app development is especially a perfect solution for construction management/services is that it can be used to tackle two main problems in the construction industry.
One is the growing cost which has become a major cause of concern. The only way to reduce costs is to outsource as many services as possible. Moreover, construction companies are frequently searching for reliable sources from where they can hire equipment to prevent maintenance and other issues. However, even if construction companies figure out that hiring and outsourcing is an effective solution to reduce cost but then how can they find the right person or material at the right time for work? The on-demand solution can tackle this problem and we will show you exactly how. (So, keep scrolling).
The second major concern is completing the project on time and for this, it is necessary to stay connected to all the parties involved. The on-demand solution allows everyone to be connected on one platform so that changes and updates in schedule and creation of change orders can be shared in real-time.
Moreover, since everything is in one place, a construction manager can easily analyse how one decision will impact the cost, quality, safety scope and function of the project. Through Construction management apps, Business owners can maximize their team’s time and resources that can eliminate productivity loss.

Construction Industry is set to reach new future milestones

On-Demand Construction App Development

There are multiple types of apps for construction bidding and management.
1. On-Demand Construction Management App
A Construction project has a lot of money/investment stake and there are many things that could go wrong. Construction management apps allow the contractors to manage the plans, blueprints, budgets, workers, subcontractor scheduling; thus, running all the activities smoothly. They can also track progress, generate reports and estimate the costs. BuilderTrend is such an app that brings the whole building world together in one application.
2. On-demand Construction Material Delivery app
This app solves the problem of last-mile delivery issues and material shortages with the press of a button. Instead of a trip to suppliers which costs time, money and productivity, fast easy and affordable delivery of construction material can be provided on demand. TOOLBX is such an app that allows the contractor to browse through thousands of products from hundreds of suppliers and source all the materials in one place.
3. Apps for Construction Bidding
These apps assist customers particularly in finding the appropriate bid for the construction projects such as a repair and remodel in the residential, commercial and corporate domains. Normally the first thing would be searching for a contractor and sorting through multiple options with each contractor claiming to provide the best service. The on-demand platform provides a solution that saves the hassle of searching for contractors and hiring one that leaves unfinished or low-quality work. BidSquad is the best example of such a construction service app.
BidSquad is one of our success stories and is an on-demand construction/renovation service platform with intelligent bid filtering software. Whenever a customer has a project, BidSquad sends trained technicians to the location to perform a detailed scope of work. Through BidSquad the technician will reach out to a network of high rated contractors who will bid for the project. The customer can choose the bid according to their desired price.

On-Demand Platform for Builders, Contractors and Renovators:

ODTap offers the best modules and features ensuring the rapid growth of your business in the construction industry through on demand Construction app development. Here are a few of the core features that are provided to the customers and the contractors.

Next Step

Now that you are aware of the Construction industry statistics and all kinds of On-Demand Construction the next step is to make your mark in the construction industry. The success of your business depends upon the quality, efficiency and interface of your application.
Today where On-demand has taken over the businesses, many start-ups suffer from a lack of product innovation and originality. It is not the case with ODTap. We are constantly searching for new ways to realize your idea into a brilliant and successful business. Contact us so we can start working on your construction app today.

Background and summary

On December 31st 2019, Chinese authorities reported a cluster of atypical pneumonia cases in Wuhan, China. A novel zoonotic virus was suspected and discovered, now named SARS-CoV-2. The syndrome of viral pneumonia caused by this virus -- sometimes associated with abnormal coagulation parameters, anosmia, anorexia, renal failure, and/or gastrointestinal distress -- has been termed COVID-19.
Despite extreme public health interventions at the first epicenter in Hubei province, China, the outbreak has become a global pandemic. Several factors have made for explosive spread of SARS-CoV-2: the human population is immunologically naive, the virus has a long incubation period and can be asymptomatically spread, and is highly infectious, with an rate of transmission significantly higher than epidemic influenza. Unfortunately, COVID-19 has proven deadly as well, with case fatality rate (CFR) estimates ranging between 0.1 to 1% or more. To date, at least 741,000 people have lost their lives in a confirmed case of COVID-19 since December 2019. The true number is suspected to be higher.
The effect of the pandemic on the healthcare system has been extreme, with cases overwhelming normal operations of hospitals during the initial surge in a number of regions, leading to staff exposure, illness, and in some cases, death. This was exacerbated by worldwide shortages in medical equipment, particularly personal protective equipment (PPE) for healthcare workers; shortages are still present in many parts of the world including the United States. Rationing of healthcare resources has been widely discussed, and in some areas implemented, creating agonizing decisions for doctors and families.
Healthcare organizations have also been starved of usual revenue, and despite an overwhelming demand for healthcare in some specialties and regions, other medical practices are seeing massive drops in income. Furloughs and pay cuts are becoming common across the American medical landscape. Telehealth visits are becoming common, and practices inside the hospital in many regions have completely transformed. In dense cities that have been handling an onslaught of patients for months, many frontline staff (ER, general medicine, ICU, etc) are physically and emotionally fatigued, yet still face a hazardous working environment.
Although some regions of the United States, Europe and Asia have been able to control the spread of COVID-19 with combinations of business shutdowns, shelter-in-place/quarantine orders, mandatory mask usage, and social distancing protocols, spread has accelerated in other regions of the United States, Brazil, Russia, and India among other areas. Public health interventions remain controversial in many areas, and particularly in the United States, have become politicized and rejected by many.
Medical science has struggled to keep pace with the spread of the virus. Despite a number of hastily executed clinical trials, few agents have been found to have any clinical effect on COVID-19 outcomes. Dexamethasone has emerged as the only treatment so far with a demonstrated mortality benefit in patients requiring supplemental oxygen or ventilator support. Misinformation and partial information (such as leaks of interim clinical trial data) are rife. Clinical treatment algorithms have swung wildly based on small case series, anecdotes and conjecture, though a shaky consensus for critical supportive care is starting to emerge. Virologists, immunologists, and others have pivoted their usual research and an impressive number of preprints have been generated. However, enormous questions remain, such as the nature of post-infectious immunity.

2020.09.15 15:23 arnoldez [WTS] Men's/Women's, Keen, Ibex, REI, Topo Designs, Tom Bihn, Thermarest, Sawyer, Polarmax, lots of made in USA

UPDATED: Many items have sold, so I've moved them to the bottom for easier navigation.
Hey there, I'm pretty new around here so bear with me. PayPal Goods/Services only. All prices include shipping to CONUS unless otherwise noted. For sizing reference, I am 6’2” and about 180 pounds. The women's stuff belonged to my wife, who is 5'0".
Verification and Product Photos
Please note: if you intend to buy multiple pieces, I will happily reduce the cost based on shipping. Just let me know what you’re looking at and your shipping zip code, and I’ll deduct accordingly.

[1 SOLD, 1 AVAILABLE] **Fire Force #8740 Military Style Ripstop Nylon Poncho, Coyote Brown, 55” x 90” – $15 each (**2x available 1x available)
• 100% Ripstop Nylon w/ Brass Grommets • Made in USA
These ponchos are pretty tough, and they are still NEW in packaging. Bought these for emergency use, but the emergency never came. I just don’t want them anymore. They include grommets to allow dual-use as a rain fly. I don’t think they’re designed to go over a backpack, but I haven’t tested them.
Condition notes: None, these are new (still in packaging).
REI Co-op Women’s Fleece Jacket, Burgundy, Small – $25
• 100% Polyester • Made in Vietnam
This fleece jacket is a simple full-zip design with no hood and two zip pockets for your hands to keep warm. The image makes the jacket look kind of brown, but it’s more of a burgundy color. Here’s a more accurate representation of the color.
Condition notes: My wife has loved this fleece, but it still looks like the day she bought it. There are no loose threads, no holes, no pilling whatsoever. We’re very impressed with how it has held up.

Keen Men’s Durand Polar Shell Boot, 11.5 US – $90
• Assembled in USA of imported materials
These boots are waterproof, warm, durable, and great on ice! I’ve only worn these a couple of times, but they’re just a bit excessive for someone living in Texas. They served me well when walking on an iced over lake in Vermont, but for most of the cold weather hiking I do, these are a bit overkill. Keen lists these as rated to -25° F (-32° C), with 200g insulation. Assembled in Portland, Oregon. I replaced the laces on these because I didn’t like the original ones, but I was able to find the originals. I will include both pairs.
Condition notes: These are nearly in new condition. The tread is pristine, and there are no visible scuffs or tears. More pictures available by request.

Military-Style Surplus ALICE Backpack w/ Frame and Waist Strap – $30 PLUS SHIPPING\*
I cannot verify the authenticity or the origin of this bag, but it sure seems to be the real thing. It was purchased from an army surplus store somewhere in Texas (either Austin or San Antonio, I can’t remember), and it’s in exactly the same shape as when I purchased it. It has 3 large pouches on the outside, and one huge main compartment that also has an internal pocket to keep heavier items close to your back. The top cover has a hook-and-loop pocket built into it. The frame is very sturdy, and is great for lashing large items.
Condition notes: This bag has definitely been used, but there are no tears, holes, or loose threads. It has no zippers to break, and the straps are all in pretty good shape. In one picture, you will note that the hole in one of the metal buckles on the shoulder straps broke and can no longer retain a pull loop. It does not affect the performance of the backpack. You will need to apply pressure to the buckles to lock it into place. Additionally, the previous owner used a heavy duty tape to keep the straps out of the way (none have been cut), so there is some tape residue in various places.
\Shipping note: Because of the metal frame, this backpack requires a larger box that means a greater shipping cost. If you are interested in this pack, shoot me your zip code and I can get you an estimate on shipping – the range is about $20–$50 for CONUS.*
Tom Bihn Aeronaut 45, Black – $140
• Exterior: Black 1050D Ballistic Nylon • Interior: Yellow Halcyon 200D Ripstop Grid Nylon • Made in USA
For those not familiar with the brand, this beautiful piece of luggage is built to be tough and extremely versatile. It’s well-designed and easy to carry. The padded handle on top makes hand carry easy, and the hidden backpack straps are comfortable, easy to deploy, and tuck away neatly. The bag also includes loops to attach a shoulder strap (not included). The organization is top-notch, and the pack is designed to be the maximum size allowed as a domestic carry-on. It makes a great choice for onebag!
Condition notes: Overall, this piece is in pretty good condition, but there are some abuse scuffs from TSA. The front panel has a mark that looks like it rubbed against a conveyor belt, and there are a few scuffs along the handle and top of the bag. The damage is light, and shouldn’t affect the lifespan of the bag, as it is built from very durable 1050D ballistic nylon. One of the zipper pulls on the main compartment is missing the corded zipper pull extension (see image). Message me for additional detailed images.

Outdoor Gear

OneTigris Mirage Mesh Tent – $35
• Mesh: Polyester Fibre B3 Netting • FlooWalls: Oxford Cloth with PU dual-coating Bathtub Bottom (I don't know what they mean by Oxford Cloth, it's 30D nylon)
I’m not certain of the origin of this tent. This is a lightweight single-person option that I found on Amazon. It can be set up by tying each end to nearby trees/posts, using trekking poles (pictured, not included), or running a ridge line (not included). The tent includes 6 stakes, 6 guy lines, and a stuff sack. POLES AND RAIN FLY ARE NOT INCLUDED. The tent weighs approximately 1 lb 14 oz with included stuff sack, tent stakes, and guy lines. It measures approximately 78 inches long by 47 inches wide by 43 inches tall when set up, and packs down to approximately 11 inches long by 5 inches in diameter.
IMPORTANT: This is a mesh-only tent, and it does NOT include a rain fly! It is intended to be used with a tarp. If you're interested, I can add in a grey 95x83 tarp with corner grommets and straps for $10. Fully stretched, it should cover the 78-inch shelter with just a few inches of overlap.
Condition notes: This tent is in great shape. I've only camped in it once, and I've set it up a couple of times in the backyard to figure it out. No tears, holes, or other known damage.
Photo note: The photos for this were shot for a previous listing, and it’s kind of a pain to set up a tent and take photos. Please note that the first photo includes today’s date, for verification.
Therm-a-Rest Pro Plus Self-Inflating Sleeping Pad, Small – $25
• Made in USA
This sleeping pad is a comfortable option for back sleepers looking for a 3/4-length pad to reduce weight or a pad for their child. It measures approximately 48 in long by 20 in wide at the widest point. Pad is 1.5 in thick, and packs down to about 12 in long by 5 in diameter. Weighs approximately 1 lb with included sack.
Condition notes: The top shows typical wear and tear, with wrinkles and minimal scuffing. The pad has no known leaks or issues, and it still seems to work like the day I bought it. I recommend storing it aired up – when you receive it, it will take some time to self-inflate the first time after shipping.

Sold items (no longer available)

[SOLD] [SALE PENDING] Ibex Shak Spire Hoodie, Black, Medium – $90
• 100% Merino Wool • Made in USA of imported materials
This full-zip hoodie is warm and comfy. It fits snugly throughout, but has enough stretch to remain comfortable. The sleeves have thumb loops, making this a decent option for a base or mid-layer in very cold temperatures.
Condition notes: I hardly ever wore this. It’s in great condition. No pilling, no stains, and no tears or holes. This item has always been stored in a zipped bag, never on a hanger and never accessible to bugs.
[SOLD] [SALE PENDING, 1 WAITLIST] Polarmax Men’s Core 3.0 Tight, Black, Large – $15
• 92% Polyester / 8% Lycra • Made in USA
These tights are VERY warm. They’re pretty lightweight and minimal, but they manage to up the heat factor with these quite a bit. There’s a decent bit of stretch in them. I don’t think I’ve ever actually worn these beyond trying them on, because they’ve always just been too hot for me to get any use out of them in Texas. These pair well with the 4-Way Stretch Crew below. These tights are opaque (not see-through).
Condition notes: These are pretty much like new. There are no damages to report, no stains, and no known wear. As I mentioned above, I don’t think I’ve ever worn these.
[SOLD] [SALE PENDING, 1 WAITLIST] Polarmax Men’s 4-Way Stretch Crew, Black, Large – $15
• 92% Polyester / 8% Lycra • Made in USA
This long-sleeve crew is also very toasty. Again, I don’t believe I’ve ever worn this top beyond just trying it on and deciding it’s still too hot. It’s pretty stretch, and form-fitting. Pairs well with the tights above. This crew is opaque (not see-through).
Condition notes: These are pretty much like new. There are no damages to report, no stains, and no known wear. As I mentioned above, I don’t think I’ve ever worn these.
[SOLD] [SALE PENDING] Polarmax Men’s Polar 1 Lightweight Pant, Black w/ Silver Trim, Large – $10
• 100% Polyester • Made in USA
These pants add a minimal amount of warmth, and I used them well in Texas winters. They’re pretty comfortable, but the fabric is somewhat sheer, so be aware if you intend to wear them as your only layer.
Condition notes: I’ve used these a fair bit, and they are showing some signs of pilling. There are no holes, stains, or loose threads in them, so I think they should stand up for quite a bit longer under normal use.
[SOLD] [SALE PENDING] Polarmax Men’s Micro H1 Crew, Grey Heather, Medium – $10
• 94% Polyester / 6% Lycra • Made in USA
This long-sleeve crew is a much lighter weight than the 4-Way Stretch above. It fits loosely, but is not baggy. It’s main purpose is to regulate and wick moisture. It adds some warmth, but not much.
Condition notes: I’ve used this crew extensively, but it is still in good shape. There are minor signs of pilling upon close inspection, but there are no holes, tears, loose threads, or stains.
[SOLD] [SALE PENDING] Polarmax Men’s Micro H1 Crew, Ink Blue, Medium – $10
• 94% Polyester / 6% Lycra • Made in USA
This long-sleeve crew is a much lighter weight than the 4-Way Stretch above. It fits loosely, but is not baggy. It’s main purpose is to regulate and wick moisture. It adds some warmth, but not much. The color is listed as Ink Blue, but it’s a bit more turquoise, I think.
Condition notes: I’ve used this crew extensively, but it is still in good shape. There are minor signs of pilling upon close inspection, but there are no holes, tears, loose threads, or stains.
[SALE PENDING] Polarmax Men’s Micro H1 T-Shirt, Black, Medium – $10
• 94% Polyester / 6% Lycra • Made in USA
This short-sleeve tee shirt is the same material as the Micro H1 crew above, but in a black color. It fits like a normal tee-shirt, loose but not baggy. It’s a great summer shirt, and is rated at UPF 39+ (I assume the long sleeves above are rated as well, but it wasn’t stated on the tag, so I didn’t list it above).
Condition notes: This tee is in pretty good condition, better than the Micro H1 crews above. I’ve worn it a few times, but I’m not seeing any obvious signs of pilling. There are no stains, tears, holes, or loose strings.
[SOLD] [SALE PENDING] Polarmax Men’s Base Layer Basic Crew (Large) AND Pant (Medium), White, – $10
• 100% Polyester • Made in USA
I’m selling these two items together because it just wouldn’t be worth the shipping if I sold them separately. This long-sleeve crew and pant set are loose-fitting but not baggy, and actually can be pretty toasty. They’re good in similar situations to when you might wear thermals or long johns around the house. They have minimal stretch in them, which I believe is why they are considered part of the “basic” line.
Condition notes: I’ve only worn these a couple of times. They have no tears, holes, or loose strings. There is some very minor pilling, but overall I think they’re in good condition. No stains.
[SOLD] [SALE PENDING] 32 Degrees Women’s Ultra-Light Packable Down Jacket, Red, Small – $20
• Shell: 100% Nylon • Lining: 100% Nylon • Insulation: 90% Down / 10% Feathers (650 fill power) • Made in China
This no-name down jacket has kind of surprised me with its value, but it’s still a budget jacket. Not much use for a down jacket in Texas, but my wife’s mom bought her this on a whim. It has a removable hood, a full-zip closure with snap-button flap, and two zip pockets. The cuffs are elastic to keep out cold air. The bottom and the hood do not cinch closed. The jacket is extremely packable, but it does not include a stuff sack.
Condition notes: The jacket is very clean with no holes or significant damage issues, but there are loose threads throughout because of the build quality. This jacket isn’t a lifetime purchase, but it’s a good deal for someone looking for a lightweight option they can abuse and throw out without much care. The down has surprisingly stayed inside the jacket from what I’ve seen.
[SOLD] [SALE PENDING] Topo Designs Stack Pack, Turquoise/Bright Yellow – $40
• 1000D Cordura Nylon • Made in Vietnam
This 17L pack holds a surprising amount of stuff, and it fits under most airline seats (which is the main reason I purchased it). It would also make a great day pack. The back is decently vented with mesh, and the straps have some pretty good padding. There are ample attachment options as well, including a shock cord bungee and dual loops. Inside, there are several organizational pockets to keep your small items organized. If you’re familiar with other Topo products, I was able to fit the Camera Cube into the bottom of this pack, with plenty of extra room for carry-on necessities. It will fit a 15” laptop into a padded interior sleeve.
Condition notes: There is virtually no wear and tear on this bag, but there are some scuff marks and stains on the bright yellow portions of the bag, internally and along the bottom of the bag. If you would like a detailed view of these, please message me.
[SOLD] [SALE PENDING, 1 WAITLIST] Topo Designs Pack Bag, Black – $10
• Made in USA (I think)
This is a basic packing cube, designed to help organize your luggage. It works well with the Stack Pack listed above, or probably any other bag. It measures approximately 10” W x 14” H x 3” D and zips on all three sides with nice, chunky YKK zippers. It also has a mesh pocket inside. Please note, although the current line of pack bags from Topo Designs is made in Vietnam, I believe this older version to be made in USA because it has the US flag tag that the company usually uses to denote products made domestically. This version is from before they had varying sizes of these pack bags, and is not currently offered on their site. lists the red version as “Handmade along Colorado's Front Range,” whatever that means.
Condition notes: Like new. No stains, no damage, everything works flawlessly.
[SOLD] [SALE PENDING] Sawyer Personal Water Filtration Bottle – $15
• Made in USA (I think)
This water filtration bottle has never been used in the field. I bought it as part of my bug out bag, and never had a need for it. Filter removes 99.9999%+ of bacteria, protozoa, E. Coli, giardia, vibrio cholerea, Salmonella typhi, and microplastics. Does NOT filter viruses. Weighs 5.5 oz. and includes a BPA-free bottle, 63 mm flip top cap, filter, and backwashing syringe. Please note, I believe all Sawyer products are made in USA, but I do not have the original packaging and cannot readily find information online about the origin of this product.
Condition notes: Logo rubbed off just slightly on one side of the bottle. Otherwise in great condition with no damage and no use.

Thrive Digitally in a Mobile Future
This article is derived from a speech given at Huawei’s 2020 Global FSI Summit, a global ICT event hosted by Huawei that is focused on partnerships and trends in FSI. It was founded in 2013 and features thought leaders, consultants, and experts from the industry.
2020 is set to be a tough year. There have been unprecedented disruptions to all industries with workforces largely restricted to working from home. Yet, many companies in the Financial Services Industry (FSI) have still successfully managed to provide essential services to customers. Indeed, we have seen that a substantial number of financial institutions have made big strides in their use of digital technologies and digital functionalities, to better cope with the challenges of the pandemic. Many industry leaders have already shared their insights for accelerating industry digital transformation as well as improving industrial operations.
I would like to give you a brief introduction to the progress Huawei has already made in the finance industry. As things stand today, we have already worked with more than 1600 financial institutions, including 45 of the world’s top 100 banks, spanning across more than 60 countries.
2019 was a tough year for Huawei, but we managed to overcome the challenges, gaining the trust of our customers in the process. In 2019 alone, we added over 300 new global FSI customers, who chose Huawei as a trusted transformation partner, recognizing the competitive positioning of our products and the value they bring, regardless of external challenges. I would like to thank every Huawei customer for their interest and support.
Indeed, in 2019, we built or strengthened partnerships with leading banks, and insurers as well as securities houses in France, Italy, Singapore, Brazil, Turkey, India, and beyond. We were able to enhance the reliability and resilience of legacy IT systems and boost digital capabilities for customers. These typical success stories reflect the real-world capabilities and real-world value Huawei products provide. We have become an integral partner for global FSI customers for their digital transformation needs.
We are committed to building a robust ecosystem with our global partners, providing them with innovative solutions and helping customers accelerate digital transformation. With the increasing demand for cashless and smart finance, Huawei works closely with leading global partners to help banks improve digital capabilities, ensuring that more people have access to financial services.
The construction of this global ecosystem is one of our core focuses, and we’ve been working extremely hard on it. Our goal is to build a comprehensive ecosystem and provide more services globally through Huawei’s rapidly growing cloud services. For example, in the near future, an African bank will be able to use a Chinese or European AI partner’s outbound call service over cloud .
In China, banks are accelerating their digital transformation. Here, Huawei has played an active role and has become the largest digital transformation partner for China’s financial industry.
For instance, Huawei has helped leading Chinese banks complete the migration of massive data from traditional data warehouses to Huawei GaussDB platforms. This allows for the improved data processing and analytics capabilities specifically required in the mobile Internet era, further driving business innovation.
We are also working with leading banks to migrate their core credit card systems from a mainframe to an open distributed platform, with over 100 million customers involved. In addition to offering Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS), Huawei also takes part in the construction of cloud platforms for numerous large-scale banks.
In China, Internet tech giants possess unique competitive advantages as they explore disruptive FinTech applications, making competition from them in the financial sector extremely fierce. The competition and cooperation between these Internet giants and the Chinese financial industry has therefore been both unique and extremely interesting.
Of course, this year, this is all happening against the backdrop of COVID-19, with financial institutions around the world continuing to strive to ensure service continuity for customers. Huawei is doing the same.
We are customer-centric and committed to supporting our customers in Business Continuity Management (BCM), making the most of our global capabilities. Huawei has the global resources to efficiently respond to customer needs, providing urgent deliveries and enhanced digital support, for example, as well as ensuring the normal operation of data centers.
With the majority of technical experts working from home during the pandemic, the use of remote Proof of Concept (PoC) tools has emerged. To date, we have successfully completed over 500 remote PoCs with global customers. Our innovative set-up allows customers to implement all configurations and complete load testing and functional testing, all without the need to leave their homes.
Huawei and Chinese financial institutions have also accumulated vast experience in adapting to remote offices and the closure of a significant number of physical branches. Over the past three months, we have hosted online exchanges with over 50 financial clients from our headquarters in Shenzhen and offices overseas. This has allowed us to share our experiences and exchange views on the global financial picture.
Looking ahead to the future, uncertainty is the biggest problem as we look to enter the post-pandemic era. According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) World Economic Outlook, the global economy will shrink sharply, by at least 3% in 2020, a larger contraction than the 2008–2009 financial crisis. Work, life, and business have all been profoundly affected, ushering in a “new normal.” We need to consider what this mean for financial institutions. How can we deal with such uncertainties?
Over the short term, global economic contraction will affect banks’ loan-loss reserves. Even with central bank intervention, the impact is likely to remain severe.
Twitter, a huge global company has announced that its employees can choose to work permanently from home if they prefer. However, banking has not made such a dramatic change. Overall, this is unsurprising in a sector traditionally viewed as conservative.
However, on the contrary, banking’s rapid embrace of digital strategies during these times belies that image. So, in wealth management for example, banks can and have offered consulting and transaction services digitally, allowing customers more time to look after their investments. As a result, wealth management has boomed and there has been a dramatic change in client behavior.
To underline the main point: we have found that digital technology is a critical way to address the impact of the pandemic. This digital space is where leading global financial institutions work their best amid the process of digital transformation. China Merchants Bank (CMB), for instance, has continued to efficiently issue large loans to corporate customers through a zero-contact process. Meanwhile, China Life held an online training live broadcast for over one million insurance agents. It is therefore abundantly clear: financial institutions with high-performing digital capabilities will thrive in the future.
As I have just said, we have had numerous exchanges online with numerous financial executives across the world. They all believe that remote work capabilities and business agility are particularly critical in the new normal. And we can surely all agree that financial institutions must move quickly into this digital world. It is further predicted that e-commerce, digital payments, and super apps will gain further traction and become major trends. Rapid changes must come with renewed models for Business Continuity Management (BCM) covering mobile offices, digital transformation, risk management, internal control processes, and more.
Simultaneously, digital transformation will be more effective with the well-timed introduction of new technologies including 5G and the Internet of Things (IoT), to accelerate the process. Early adopters will be able to convert today’s challenges into competitive advantages in the future and take a comfortable lead in the digital world.
The digital world will be based on mobility, with connectivity becoming exceedingly important: customers will need and demand full access to financial and non-financial services anytime, anywhere. 5G is not just an innovative connection point but also one that drives business innovations, to enable all-round customer experiences. In the future, powerful real-time connections must be ubiquitous, and 5G, IoT, and flexible networks are key technologies in delivering this.
We believe that mobile capacity will be the core capability of future banks. It will not only serve as a point of contact with clients, but also as an interface for internal operations and collaborations with partners. The mobile apps of banks will become a key operational platform. To support such a mobile-centric model requires new Information Technology (IT) architecture and key capabilities in 5G, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and cloud. As a leader in these fields, Huawei is uniquely positioned to support the cloud transformation of financial institutions as well as build new connectivity capabilities, helping financial institutions improve agility and innovation
Mobile apps will be the main arena for future banks, with digital customer acquisition dictating app traffic. Banking apps will become the core platform for digital operations, and will turn into super apps by combining multiple services for all scenarios, creating an ecosystem.
Banks will therefore need to transform into mobile-centric IT architecture, including building mobile internet based on 5G technology, restructuring flexible cloud-based and distributed IT architecture, building AI-powered data platforms, and building agile micro-service architecture, open Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) , and more.
Over the past ten years, we have gained a wealth of experience in the global financial industry. In particular, in the Chinese market, we have invaluable firsthand experience working with top banks undergoing digital transformation at the same time as they are competing with tech giants exploring FinTech disruptions to the industry. The rapid development in the mobile app era of these banks has also provided a great deal of insight. We are more than happy to share our experience and ecosystems with our customers and partners around the world, to enter the mobile digital world together.

Hello, I have noticed a spike in reports of "groups of sparkly lights" on this subreddit recently. I'm not saying they're balloons, drones, aliens, China, birds or anything specific. I'd just like to list them here so they're easy to find and discuss as a whole. It's also important to note that while all videos look kind of similar, they might be different things.

I now the title says "in the past week" but as I started compiling them, I found more. I also recommend looking at the comments for other links I might have missed.

2020.09.14 14:31 Bdavid5 Top 5 Things To Watch In The Stock Market This Week

Is the U.S. market sell-off coming to an end this week?

U.S. Stock Futures Push Higher Amid 3 Merger Deals

U.S. stock futures are rising after two weeks of stock market sell-off. Is this a sign of bigger upward movements to come? The positive sentiments came from news of high profile acquisition over the weekend. The Dow futures traded 0.82% higher. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 futures were also in positive territory, moving 1.18% and 1.7% higher respectively as of 6.58 a.m. ET.
There are a few reasons for the strong start of the week. This came after Nvidia (NVDA Stock Report) reported that it will acquire wireless chip designer Arm Holdings from SoftBank for $40 billion. In addition, China’s ByteDance has reportedly agreed to sell the U.S. operations of TikTok to Oracle (ORCL Stock Report). So if you’re looking for any trading activity on Monday, the tech sector could be a good place to start.

Coronavirus Vaccine Hopes Boosts Market Confidence

Coronavirus cases worldwide have surpassed 29 million. Covid-19 deaths are now more than 900,000. In the U.S. alone, coronavirus cases have hit 6.70 million, with deaths above 198,000. However, most importantly will be the impact on market sentiment this week as AstraZeneca (AZN Stock Report) restarted their final-stage trial of its coronavirus vaccine. The trial was paused last week after one fell ill. Thus far, it’s still unclear what the reason was. Perhaps it was related to the vaccine. But it is just as likely that it was totally unrelated.
Pfizer (PFE Stock Report) and BioNTech (BNTX Stock Report) are looking to expand their late-stage coronavirus vaccine trial to 44,000 people, from 30,000. That would allow testing on a more diverse population. The AstraZeneca and Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine candidates are generally seen as furthest along, with Moderna (MRNA Stock Report) following closely behind. With a slight ‘positive’ development from the vaccine manufacturers, the market appears to be optimistic. This likely contributed partly to the rise of the U.S. stock futures on Sunday evening.

Apple’s September 15 “Time Flies” Event; What To Expect?

Apple (AAPL Stock Report) unveils its new lineup of Apple devices on September 15 at 10 a.m PT. This may pave the way for the arrival of the iPhone 12, which will finally find the company embracing 5G technology. On top of that, almost certainly, the trillion-dollar tech company would also introduce a new Apple Watch. The device continues to be a big seller for the company, not to mention being a category-leading product.
And strings for an “Apple One” bundle have shown up in code for an Apple Music app for Android. This is suggesting that Apple may be close to launching its rumored range of subscription bundles. While consumers are no doubt very excited to check out the latest products and services from Apple, investors are trying to get a grasp on how the stock would perform around the event date. Will Apple surprise investors with news that can send AAPL stock higher this week? Stay tuned.

Federal Reserve Policy Meeting

The Federal Open Market Committee’s (FOMC) meeting on Tuesday and Wednesday should be closely watched by investors. This comes after weeks following the central bank’s annual economic policy symposium. Recall that officials announced a new framework that is more tolerant of inflation overshooting the 2% target. This reduces the need for officials to raise rates to curtail a run-up in inflation.
With many expecting the Fed to maintain its dovish stance on policy, investors will continue assessing the recovery of the global economy from the pandemic. Traders are mindful of recent news on volatility in the options markets. After all, that poses a question mark on the sustainability of the market rally in the past few months.

Gold Gains On Weaker Dollar

Gold prices rose on Monday, supported by a weaker dollar and expectations that the Fed will adopt a dovish stance like we just mentioned. It rose nearly 0.3% to $1,946.67 per ounce as of 3.43 a.m. ET. As major central banks continue to roll out stimulus measures and keep interest rates low, gold prices will continue to find strong support because of its role as a hedge against inflation.
“The gold market is leaning towards the Fed’s policy,” said Stephen Innes, chief market strategist at AxiCorp, adding that the U.S. central bank might not change the current narrative, but there is a strong belief in the market that it would be able to trigger inflation.

• Additional initiatives to work closer with partners include building three new global ecosystem cooperation labs and five new global developer service centres
Dongguan, China, 10 September 2020 – Huawei has today shared important updates on AppGallery at the Huawei Developer Conference 2020 (Together). With this strong support and recognition, we will continue to invest in the ecosystem as we build one of the top three app distribution platforms in the world. 2020.09.14 02:36 black-cat-tarot 34 [F4R] Canada/Anywhere Looking for a friend/partner

The Basics:
Name: Ash
Background: soooo white
Birthday: Nov 17
Age: 34
Height: 5 foot 4 inches/164 CM
Sex: Female (Cis if that matters to anyone)
Weight: 225lbs (working on losing it)
Orientation: Bisexual and demisexual (that means I won’t/can’t have sex without an emotional bond to the person)
Religion: Raised protestant, I’m still spiritual but don’t regularly attend church
Fun fact: I have 9 tattoos.
TL;DR: I’m super liberal, geek, have cats, don’t have time for bullshit.
Small talk in chat starts to feel a bit overwhelming sometimes due to my adhd. Don’t be alarmed if I don’t always answer immediately, I’m just taking a break.
Now that that’s out of the way...
I’m currently an academic librarian in Labrador. In the past I was an elementary librarian and high school librarian in various private schools in Kuwait, Vietnam, and China. I have two degrees: my BA was a major in history and a minor in Irish studies and my masters was a masters of library and info science degree.
Someday I hope to be a fulltime artist, so I paint and draw a lot in my spare time. I have a lot of spare time up here lol I’d also like to eventually build an off the grid tiny/small house and have a sustainable farm growing flowers and hemp and keeping chickens, mini goats, and alpacas.
I’m from a tiny town full of cows and go back to visit family on holiday, though I’m not sure I’d move back given the chance. I swore I’d only live in cities after “escaping” and now look at me- living in the subarctic in a small town daydreaming about having a farm. I must be mellowing in my old age… My main hobbies are wasting too much time on Youtube, writing (historical fiction and fairytales- both LGBTQ+), art (acrylics, watercolour, drawing, and digital), read, and work on my digital art profile.
I’m very much a homebody. ADHD and anxiety make going out too much or with too many people overwhelming. Plus I have chronic pain issues, so I tend to be tired a lot.
That’s not to say I don’t go out, I just wait for places and events I really want to go to.
I’m also a pretty big geek- Marvel (MCU and comics), Doctor Who, and Disney are my main fandoms. Also super into the supernatural and true crime, though a skeptic. Ask me about my personal ghost stories if you want.
Board games and computer games are also fun. I’m working on a library based board game thought it’s not my main focus at the moment. I regularly play Sims 4 and Stardew Valley on PC.
I got to go to the first official comic con in Shanghai in 2015 with friends. Even got to meet my favourite comic book cover artist and get his autograph and a photo with him (I was dressed as Peggy Carter in army uniform).
I’m also the family genealogist and evening found a long lost cousin we didn’t know we had via DNA. She’s 84 or 85 and met her sisters a year ago. I have no kids and I don’t know that I want any since the world is on fire, but I do have two cats who are basically my kids. I’m also allergic to cats…yeah IDK either.
I’m verrryyyyy liberal. Pro-choice, anti-Trump, probably a socialist since I believe all essentials of life should be free to everyone, pro-LGBTQ+, intersectional feminist, and a big animal lover (except spiders, I’m severely arachnophobic- you will have to be the spider killer). I’m on a journey of weight loss- aiming to take 100lbs off and already lost 30. I’m very open about my health and issues. Silence is a killer.
I’m sick to death of most dating apps. And am not looking for the typical “You’re pretty comments” that ignore my intelligence and experiences.
I’m not looking for my other half as I’m not incomplete when alone, but it would be nice to have someone to share my life with.
If you’re interested or just want to chat, send me a message on here and we’ll see where it goes.
Hey, it’s my face! I rarely wear makeup these days so this is the unvarnished truth. me!

2020.09.13 11:47 fgs78ejlfs My mom in China keeps mentioning moving here with me in the US.

A few background is that I grew up in China and my mother was physically and emotionally abusive. However in the traditional Chinese culture parents are always on the right. I am still expected to take care of her when she gets old, especially I am an only child. My mother does not quite admit what exactly she did to me but I remember a lot of stuff. She is somehow very proud that I am now very successful and takes credit for that.
I was taken to the heart doctor as a kid. I had irregular breath pattern. Turned out my heart is ok, my irregular breath pattern is physiological. I fear every day. When I see an adult, I wonder if I can ever become one. It is so difficult every day, how can I make it for another 20 years?
She would beat me on the top of my head, saying ohhh I wish you brian get damaged so you will be more quite. Even if I just told her I cannot finish the ice cream i am full. I cannot be tired, cannot be sleepy, cannot be too silence, cannot be too loud, cannot be hungry, cannot be full. I just get beaten for random reasons. She also threw furnitures out the window where there are pedestrians passing by, because my dad bought a furniture she does not like.
I like when my mom has her friends over. She does not beat me or yell at me in front of her friends. Maybe some slight negative remarks that is all. Sometimes I have to talk to those aunties. Those aunties are cool, they supported me. They listened to me.
I have to really really admit it to myself. My mother is violent, abusive both physically and emotionally. I am hurt.
I live in the US and my husband is American. I am very assimilated to the western culture and I know from a western point of view I have every right to refuse a multiple generational living situation, especially when my mother was abusive.
I needed a very firm confident to say no. Despite how much she is going to try, I am not living in a multigenerational household. It is just bad for my health. I tried so hard to leave when I was from and make a good life, I do no want to be hunted with those unpleasant experiment.
Even my husband because he is always very western in terms of value, strongly supports that we do not live in multigenerational household. I just have to confront my mother and no matter how much shame I experiment, do not cave in.
I am not lacking any sympathy for my mother, who grew up with extreme poverty and propaganda. I was the hope of upward mobility and status. I also won’t think she would abuse my children since I already earned the status and face she needed. And she know in some sense I am the way I am, very westernized and independent, because of how I was raised.
However, she will keep taking credit for my current achievement and try to show me off to her friends as a trophy, and deny how I was hurt. I am, jn some way, just being used as a tool. I have the potential to bring her the social status she did not have, but I am not at the same time a person with feeling and needs. Even just today she admitted children is a product of a mother. I do not agree. Children are just independent individuals who need support until them come to age.
The traditional kongfusion value where parents have the absolute authority is also a tool she used to shame me. She is like “how can you forget your mom who raised you”. However I think the value system itself failed to hold parents accountable. It is unfair for the kids who grew up in an abusive environment.
She also keeps lecturing me the notion that parents are more important than spouse. How she and my father divorce and became enemy. I am sorry that their marriage did not work out, but I believe in my own marriage. We have each other understanding, support and sympathy, we are not my mom and my dad.
She claims victory of my “success”. She thinks she raised me well. I am not a “success”. I worked so hard, not to be successful, just to be safe. I have no other choice. I had to study really hard, get a school in US, go to interviews, get a job in US, go on dates, with my awkward English, because I have to find myself a safe place. I am still working a highly demanding job and doing my best. I am still working on my relationship with my husband despite that I have so much trauma.
I battle with self esteem issue, shame, fear, and I know I need my space from the person who contribute to a decent portion of my trauma. I did not know what I needed and might not be able to stand up for myself. But I do now. I am learning a bit every day.
I am still a sentimental person however I do not miss my childhood. Those colorful salsa I have in Florida really brings up the sentimental feeling I have. Chinese home cooked meal just does not.
Thanks for all the comments! I am flattered with all these warmth and sympathy. I straighten thing out with her earlier and I was quite kind but unapologetic. I think I did it! I would still be friends with her but I am in charge of the boundaries and not longer the pushover.
Another thing is I set my default app to use with my phone to be reddit instead of wechat(Chinese chat/social media app) . Other app is Youtube, Gmail and LinkedIn. These sources are much healthier than what I see with wechat. Check my wechat less often.
She did not treat me with compassion and empathy. And she never well. I might think she changes. But she does not. She will do what she has to get me to think she is different. But she is the same. Manipulate. Guilt trip.
Some kids were raised with sympathy, support and compassion. However not all kids are that lucky. Some parents are just toxic and kids just have to distance themselves. No shame.
Of course she might have a very lonely senior year. And I feel sorry for her. She also makes me feel more sorry for her by telling me how lonely she is. But you know what? If someone decides to be a toxic abusive parent, they might have to be a lonely senior. She did not feel sorry for me when I was that helpless child who fear every day and could not breath. I shall not feel sorry for her.
“孝” means respect the parents. However, just like a lot of traditional, this concept needs some update. There are people who suffer from childhood abuse, they probably spend most of their childhood thinking it is all their fault, that they are bad kids. As a adult they need a lot of reflection work just to recognize that their caregivers were abusive. They need their prescription which is boundary with their abuser. It is just like people who needs medication, glasses, hearing aids, wheelchairs. You cannot deny people of their need. These people have to set their own prescription based on their own situations. It is case by case. They don’t deserve more judgement. I cannot live with my mother for more than one week a year. That is what I need. And I don’t have to judge myself for needing.
I find Latin American food very sentimental. I mean I cannot look at taco and salsa and not smile. I guess Latin American food is the biggest food discovery (there are American fast food in china but no Mexican food, cuban food, Peruvian food, etc) when I moved to the US that is my I have this emotional attachment to Latin American food.
I also find rock and roll very sentimental.
